Featured Training Topic: Google Panda Update
We now offer real estate training to help you understand the new world of search-engine rankings. Here’s what you need to know about it…

Google Panda
Google has changed the way it evaluates websites — again. As a result, it is now harder for real estate companies to achieve first-page ranking in the number-one search engine. Search engine marketing (SEM) expert Brandon Cornett has launched a real estate training program to teach agents how to thrive in the wake of the so-called “Panda” update.
In February of 2011, Google made a change to the computerized algorithm it uses to evaluate and rank websites. It was the “tweak” heard round the world. It is now known as the “Panda” update, named after one of the engineers who worked on the project. This update has raised the bar for what is considered quality website content. Real estate agents who wish to improve their search engine performance in 2012 must embrace the Panda.
Brandon Cornett is intimately familiar with Google’s Panda update. He is a veteran of the search engine optimization (SEO) industry, and a full-time Internet publisher. He has studied the websites that sailed through the Panda update, as well as those that saw their traffic levels plummet. He has seen the impact across his own network of websites, as well. And he has listened closely to what the engineers at Google have had to say about the update.
And now, Cornett offers real estate training to teach agents and brokers how to thrive in the post-Panda world of website rankings.
“Panda changed everything,” he said. “It’s much harder to achieve first-page rankings in Google today than it was in the past. And it’s just going to get harder going forward. That’s why we’ve created this training program. We teach real estate professionals how to succeed under the new standards of content evaluation. We use the content guidelines offered by Google as a baseline, and we build on that. Any company that relies on search engine visibility will benefit from this training.”
According to Cornett, much of the Google Panda update relates to website content. The Google team has come up with new ways to distinguish between low-quality and high-quality content. They do this by studying human responses to certain types of website content, and applying that same level of discernment to their search engine “robots.”
Amit Singhal, the lead software engineer for Google’s ranking team, explained the primary goal of the Panda update in a post on the official Google blog: “This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites — sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites, or sites that are just not very useful.”
According to Brandon Cornett, “useful” is the operative word in Singhal’s statement. Real estate agents who wish to achieve top rankings in Google and other search engines must go above and beyond to publish useful content on their websites.
“It’s all about engaging the reader,” he explained. “If your website doesn’t help people in some way, they won’t stay on it for very long. This will drive up your ‘bounce rates’ and lower your Google rankings over time. We teach people how to rethink their approach to creating website content. We give them the tools they need to succeed, both now and in the future.”
Cornett offers real estate training to agents across the United States. He also provides in-house training for agents in the San Diego area. He teaches business owners how to think like Internet publishers, with the ultimate goal of boosting their Google rankings.

Other Real Estate Training Topics
Our real estate training program is built around Internet marketing. As you know, this is a fairly large umbrella with a lot of topics and strategies beneath it. Here are some of the specific topics we can help you with.
- We offer training on search engine optimization (SEO) for your real estate website. We offer one-on-one SEO consultations over the phone, as well as on-site training throughout the San Diego area. We can teach you how to improve your search engine visibility in order to attract more clients. Don’t sit idly by while a handful of agents harvest all of the Internet traffic — get your share of it! This training session is a great place to start.
- We offer training on real estate blogging and publishing strategies. It’s not enough to have a “standard agent website” with a bio and a services page. If you want to improve your search engine visibility and website traffic, you need to think like a publisher. We can teach you how to implement a variety of publishing strategies on your existing website, or under a brand-new web domain. We cover blogging programs, content strategies, news distribution and more. This real estate training topic is for agents who are willing to work hard to maintain an active publishing program.
- We offer training on website content, as it relates to your Internet marketing program. If you want to achieve first-page rankings in the major search engines, you need to publish high-quality content on a regular basis. This helps you in many ways. It helps you attract links from other websites, which is great for search engine rankings. It helps you position yourself as an authority within your local market. And it keeps people on your site longer, which makes them more inclined to contact you. But it all starts with the quality and quantity of content you provide.
- We also provide real estate training on web-based lead generation strategies. This topic is relevant to all agents, but especially those who are having trouble converting website visitors into leads. We can explain some of the techniques we have used in the past, and how you might adapt them for your own marketing program.
If you have questions about any of these topics, please use the “contact” page available through the main menu.
Pricing and Options
We offer two types of real estate training: (1) on-site at your office location, and (2) over the phone. Both options are billed hourly. Additional travel fees may apply to some areas.
- Phone Training ($75 / hour) — With this option, you’ll have a full hour of phone time with Internet marketing specialist Brandon Cornett. You can send us your specific topics of interest in advance, if applicable. Brandon’s expertise covers blogging, search engine optimization, website content strategies and more.
- On-site Training ($115 for first hour) — With this option, Brandon will travel to your office location in San Diego. On-site training is billed by the hour, not by the group size. Either way, the pricing is the same: $115 for the first hour, and $75 for each additional hour.
- Travel Fees — We can travel to any office location within San Diego county. Travel fees apply to more distant locations. Distance is measured from our location in Carlsbad. There is no travel fee for locations with 15 miles. There is a one-time travel fee of $25 for locations that are 16 - 25 miles away. A fee of $35 applies for all locations that are 26 – 35 miles away. Locations 36 – 45 miles away have a $45 travel fee. If you are outside of 45 miles, please contact us for an exact quote.
