Definition - Domain Age
Domain age is just what it sounds like — the age of your website domain. Your domain is where your website resides, and it's also referred to as your URL or website address. My domain is armingyourfarming.com.
Domain age plays a role in search engine optimization, because some search engines tend to favor older websites (if all other things are equal). This is especially true of Google, because the #1 search engine loves older websites with a lot of inbound links.
Of course, when I say "old" I'm talking Internet years. By my definition an "older" website is five years old or more.
But while Google seems to place a lot of weight on domain age, MSN (now called Live Search), doesn't seem to care about the age of a website. In fact, if you have a lot of content on your website, proper onsite optimization, and a decent amount of inbound links, you can rank well in MSN regardless of domain age.
Want to Learn More?
If you have an older website, you could be sitting on a search engine magnet ... without even realizing it. But sometimes, small adjustments can make a huge difference. So if your website is more than five years old, I recommend you purchase my title treatment service along with a month of link building to maximize your website ranking and traffic.
