Brandon’s SEO Copywriting Background

All of our SEO copywriting projects are handled by Brandon Cornett. Brandon has been writing content for the web since before the term “SEO” even existed. We do not outsource any jobs to interns, amateur writers or college students (you’d be surprised what some companies will do).
Here are some things you should know about Brandon’s background:
- Brandon has been writing professionally since his last tour in the military, in 2001.
- He is a widely published authority on the subject of SEO copywriting, and business writing in general. His articles and tutorials have appeared on thousands of websites.
- Brandon has held several writing jobs in the past, before starting his own company. He was a technical writer for the U.S. Navy. He was an advertising writer for one of the largest direct-mail companies in the country. He was an SEO writer for an Internet marketing firm located in Texas.
- As the SEO product manager for a fast-growing marketing firm in Texas, he managed the search engine marketing (SEM) campaigns of nearly two-dozen companies. He performed SEO copywriting services, pay-per-click (PPC) management, online public relations and more.
- He has received professional training and certification from the International Webmasters Association (IWA), the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), and Writer’s Digest University.
- Brandon manages a network of real estate websites and writes all of the content for these sites. The Home Buying Institute, one of his most popular sites, attracts thousands of visitors every day. In this role, his SEO copywriting duties are diverse. He writes everything from “how to” articles to nationally distributed news stories.
As you can see, Brandon has been involved with SEO copywriting for many years. He has a level of knowledge and experience that is nearly unmatched in the industry. He can help you with any SEO writing task you might have. Even if you’re not sure what kind of content you need, we can help. You can schedule a one-on-one consultation with Brandon, to come up with a content plan. Either way, you are in good hands!
Writing Samples Available
You can find some of Brandon’s writing samples on this page of our old website (prior to our relocation from Austin to San Diego). We can send you additional SEO copywriting samples upon request, if you need them. You should also read some of the articles listed in the right-hand sidebar of this website, since they were all written by Brandon.
Choosing an SEO Copywriter
Did you know there are no training or certification requirements for search engine optimization companies? There are a few certification programs out there, but they’re basically just money-making schemes. They are not required by any means.
What does this mean to you? It means you have to be very careful when hiring a company for their SEO copywriting services. Anyone can hang out a sign and claim to be an SEO expert. But that doesn’t make it true.
The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines due diligence as “research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business transaction.” This is what you need to do before choosing an SEO provider. It’s what you’re doing right now, by visiting our website. Here are some tips for performing due diligence on SEO copywriting companies in particular:
- Read the writer’s blog. Most SEO copywriters have a blog where they share their views on writing, search engine optimization, or whatever else tickles their fancy. This is a great way to assess the person’s competency as a writer.
- Make sure the content is written for people first and search engines second. It should have a journalistic quality and be easy to read. Amateur SEO writers will often focus on search engine optimization to the point that they forget about the human readers. That’s how you end up with ridiculously over-optimized content, like this article.
- Ask the writer about his or her “style.” You’ll get all kinds of responses to this question. Here’s what you should hope to hear. Every piece of website content has a purpose. Its purpose might be to make a sale, to educate the reader, to generate a lead or inquiry, or to explain a product or service. The content should be written for that singular purpose, first and foremost. Search engine optimization comes second.
- Ask about turnaround times. Many people who offer SEO copywriting services are actually part-timers. Moonlighting is a sign of entrepreneurial drive, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But it might limit the writer’s efficiency. So you need to ask about it. Our turnaround time is generally one business day per page or article. Brandon is a full-time copywriter.
Do you have questions about our SEO copywriting services? Are you as excited to get started as we are? Then send us an email. We look forward to helping you improve your web presence!
