Website Content for Real Estate Agents

Do you need fresh content for your real estate website or blog? We can help. We specialize in creating high-quality website content on a variety of real estate topics. You’ll learn more about our writing services in a moment. But first, a word of warning…

Why You Should Never Copy Content from Other Sites

Many real estate agents find it easier to copy content from other websites, instead of writing their own original material. There are many problems with this strategy. But for now, let’s focus on the search engine optimization (SEO) implications.

Search engines generally don’t include duplicate / reprint content within their results. And why should they? Nobody wants to find the same article listed multiple times on a single page of Google results. It’s redundant. The search engines have filters to prevent this from happening.

So if you fill your real estate website with content that also appears on other sites, you will never achieve good search engine rankings. This can be detrimental to your business.

Some definitions are in order:

  • Original content refers to articles, blog posts and news stories that you wrote yourself. This information is unique to your website. It does not occur on any other site. So a search engine would be more likely to include it within their search results. This is what we provide for our clients.
  • Unoriginal content refers to information you have copied and pasted from other sites. Unoriginal content does not perform well in the search engines. In fact, it rarely gets displayed within their results at all. If you have too much unoriginal content on your real estate website, your entire site could be flagged and devalued by Google.

There are certain scenarios where you can safely reprint content onto your site. Press releases are one example. If most of the content on your real estate website is original, and you publish the occasional press release (reprint material), it shouldn’t cause any problems. The problems arise when most of the content on your site is unoriginal.

Google Panda Loves Original Website Content

In February 2011, Google adjusted the computer algorithm it uses to evaluate and rank websites. They have done this many times in the past. But this change was different. It scrutinizes website content like never before. In fact, it will penalize your entire site if it contains too much low-quality real estate content. This change is now widely known as the Panda update.

So what does “low-quality” mean in this context? We will defer this question to Amit Singhal, one of the lead software engineers with Google. Mr. Singhal heads up the team that develops their ranking algorithm. Here is what he said about the Panda update, in particular:

Amit Singhal, Google“[I]f you want to step into Google’s mindset, the questions below provide some guidance on how we’ve been looking at the issue … Does the article provide original content or information, original reporting, original research, or original analysis? … How much quality control is done on content?” -Amit Singhal, Google

Notice the word “original” appears four times within a single sentence. It’s a pretty clear signal. In the original blog post where this quote appeared, he also mentioned the length and quality of website content. In order to rank well in Google, an article needs to be (A) original, (B) well written, and (C) substantial in length and detail.

If you can produce this kind of real estate content on your own, great! Take this guidance and run with it. Fill your website with beefy articles, in-depth tutorials and original research. The search engines will reward your efforts over time. But if you can’t do it for yourself, you need to outsource the job to a professional writer. That’s where we come in.

It’s important to grow your website over time. Search engines love fresh content, and so do your readers. A frequent publishing schedule will help you pull in more visitors. That’s where we can help. Here are some of the things we can write for you:

  • How-to articles relating to the real estate process. What are the different types of mortgage loans? What are the steps in the home-buying process? What does it take to sell a house in the current market? We can write in-depth tutorials around these topics and more. It will include plenty of keywords pertaining to your local housing market.
  • In-depth research pieces relating to your local housing market. Homeowners and home buyers love market updates. So do journalists and bloggers. This kind of real estate content helps you in several ways. It makes people more inclined to trust you (and contact you). It keeps people on your website longer. And it helps you attract links from other websites, which will boost your search-engine rankings over time.
  • Profiles of neighborhoods or subdivisions within your market area. We have found this to be a very popular topic among home buyers, especially those who are relocating from elsewhere. These people often do Google searches for “places to live” within a certain city. They’ll also search for information about “neighborhoods in [your city].” Do you have this kind of content on your real estate website? If not, you’re missing out on some valuable traffic. We can help you fill the void.
  • Anything else you can imagine! Brandon has written on a wide variety of topics in the past. His writing ability is equally matched by his research skills. He can produce quality content on nearly any topic imaginable. Do you need something that’s not listed above? Just let us know.
