Real estate blogs are a great way to enhance your website with frequently updated content. In fact, if you're a real estate agent with a marketing or educational website, I can't think of a single reason for you not to start a blog.
Let's first address a blog myth:
With regards to real estate search engine optimization, blogs do not hold any magical powers. They will not propel you onto page 1 of Google in no time flat, like some people seem to think. But blogs are very easy publish, and that's one of the biggest SEO advantages they have over regular websites.
Most blogging tools (such as Blogger or WordPress) produce clean, well-structured web code. And they literally do it at the click of a button. You simply type your blog post, click on the "Publish" button, and you've got a new web page. The blog software translates your plain text into HTML web code for you.
A technical side-note: If you're using Blogger, be sure to turn on "post pages" so each blog post can be saved as its own separate web page. Here's how
We know that search engines like content. And with a blog, content is easy to create. You can publish web pages just as quickly as you can write them. If you do it three times a week for a year, you'll have more than 150 pages of quality web content.
How to use your blog:
So now you're convinced that a real estate blog can help you increase your visibility online. But what do you publish? What do you blog about? In truth, this question is only limited by your imagination. You can use your blog to publish property listings, special events like open houses, current interest rates ... or all three.
Some blogging programs let you create categories (like sub-sections of a regular website), so you can easily divide your topics and posts. By default, most blogs are also chronological in nature, which makes them ideal for a "What's New" approach to publishing.
One final tip — try to blog in your true voice. Initially, blogs came about as a medium for personal expression, like diaries or journals. And though they've taken on some business uses, the most popular blogs are still the ones with a lot of personality.
Good luck in your blogging adventures. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to post it at AdviceForAgents.com.
